 Everybody Loves Rudy! How quickly we forget the past. From all accounts, the 9-11 poster child may be interested in a run at the White House. And we thought that Bush was bad! At least Rudy's articulate. But, no one seems to remember that ol' Rudy wasn't that popular a few months before the attack on the World Trade Center buildings. Wasn't he getting raked over the coals for cheating on his wife?
But, even though many others have forgotten, I haven't. This is indeed an extreme makeover, but I remember when Rudy gave the go ahead to release Patrick Dorismond's sealed juvenile record hours after he was brutally murdered. I remember when Rudy went on to praise Anthony Vasquez for his distinguished career, even though he had discharged his firearm without provocation on other occasions. He even killed his neighbor's dog.
I remember when a Hispanic lady was killed on a ride at Coney Island, and Rudy coldly made a statement about amusement park rides being dangerous...never apologizing to the family. I remember the disdain Rudy showed for minorities that were either victims of police violence. They were always guilty first. But then, I also remember when Robert Iler of the Sopranos was arrested for robbery and Rudy called him "a good kid".
Unlike many, I'm not fooled by what may go down as the most extreme makeover in American History. I witnessed the cold, bitter racism firsthand. I know the real Rudy, and so does Donna Hanover. Malik Malichi |
