Throwing
Bullets Instead of Rice
Most people throw rice at weddings. It's an
age long ritual, right? I don't know its origin. I've heard that rice
throwing at weddings originated in ancient times to guarantee
happiness and fertility for the bride and groom. I'm not
sure. But then again, I'm not a person that ever quite believed
in rituals or superstition. A week or so ago, the NYPD
started a new ritual. They threw 50 bullets at a groom to
be after his bachelor party. Yes, what a way to guarantee
infertility and unhappiness--Leaving a grieving wife to wonder
what could have been. Unfortunately, that's the mentality of some of the officers in our very own NYPD. This is the reason why some view the NYPD as The New York Pigs Department. And Sean Bell was just the latest victim of the corruption, insensibility and murderous ways exhibited by some of New York's Finest. This is no doubt nationwide news today, but in a year it will be forgotten.
Lets look at the facts. This was a sting operation in a strip bar, in which undercover officers are allowed a two drink maximum. Our police department has determined that two drinks will not impede their judgment. Hmm…meanwhile, you can be convicted of a DWI if you've consumed two drinks and your alcohol level is above the legal limit. These officers were not required to take a breathalyzer, which is another interesting fact.
I know some people that get drunk off of one cocktail. Now, people have said that this cannot be a race related incident, because some of the officers were Black and Hispanic. O.K. All that means to me is that even Black and Hispanic cops view Black men as violent perps. They're mentality is to shoot first ask questions last. One of the cops reloaded after throwing twenty bullets in the victim's car.
How many Black , white or Hispanic officers have shot an unarmed white perp in the past 20 years? Name one. I can name 10 Black men that have been shot in the past two years in New York alone. Throwing bullets on the eve of your wedding may be something new, however shooting unarmed Black men is not. I've had a gun pulled out on me twice in the past two years. One time for double parking and the other for a traffic violation. It's open season. There's a duck hunt going on and you're the only one wearing the feathers. There's also no consequences in many cases. Officers get paid administrative leave when they murder young Black men.
One of the first things I heard was the fact that one of the victims may have been arrested before. What the hell does this have to do with anything? Are we condemned by the sins of our past? Then they put together a reenactment of the victim's car. He was driving out of control. Really? If somebody ran up on you as you're leaving a club with their gun drawn, what would you do? You'd try to drive out of harm's way. You may be erratic. You're trying to outrun the grim reaper.
In any case, this letter is actually a plea. I didn't participate in any of the recent marches. Marching at this point will only get you worn soles. The NYPD needs to understand that Black men will not continue to be hunted down and treated like savages. These conditions are what spawned the Black Panther movement and other revolutionary groups. What the police may encounter is people shooting back going forward. Or even worse, shooting first. They don't want that. But, this ritual will cannot continue to occur in our communities. There won't be anymore throwing of bullets on the eve of a wedding, or any day for that matter when innocent people are involved. Sean Bell deserved better. So did Patrick Dorismond, Timothy Stansbury and everyone else that the NYPD has murdered in the past. The list is too long to even write.
